Hi, My 1997 Peugeot 106 1.1 passenger side gearbox to driveshaft oil seal is leaking very slightly.. I've ordered one from Fleaby, which should be here 2mrw.

I'm ok with getting the drive shaft and seal out etc ..
My cunning plan ;) is to smear gearbox oil round ALL surfaces of the seal. Would this be ok, or do certain parts have to be dry on installation.
I don't have any grease... Do I really need some?, or will gearbox oil do? to lubricate the seal.
I am still trying to convince myself not to use the old gearbox oil to save £16 on the Total.... My thinking is that I can change that any any time, easy peasy through the breather cap up top , near the battery)
I am planning on using some wood , to tap the seal in gently, so it can't go further in , than level to the gearbox body.
I plan to hold the driveshaft's weight by a rope from up top, and oil the driveshaft spline before insertion and twist gently as it goes into the seal.
What do you reckon? Any tips would be appreciated...
Cheers Liam
