VW Touran 1.4 TSI 2008 (ANA) - 7speed - dsg oil change - Keih in Japan

Hi people i was hoping some1 could shed some light on this problem.

Ive picked up a "low milage" (60,000km-5k) Touran and am about to service it BUT as slkfanboy mentioned in this post (www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=104489) There are two types DSG7 wet clutch and dry clutch. Dry clutches do not need a change and wet clutches.

The manual is Japanese to me literally as i live in Japan ;o) and the dealer is as much use as a chocolate tea pot. Does any1 know how to tell if the DSG require a oil change or not? VIN number/engine number etc/gear box number even......

Thanks in advance for any help,

Keith

As far as I know the 7 speed used in the Golf is a dry clutch. The 6 speed used in the more powerful variants is a wet clutch.

There is a speed wet clutch which is only used in very new more powerful VAG cars.

If you look on a VW forum you may find the info you require and how to change the fluid.

Perhaps now is a good time to join a forum .I would also recommend you buy a new plastic filter housing,as they usually break as they are unscrewed.(about £8 in the UK).forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=365482

Volkswagen help
How is the dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) serviced and what is involved?
Depending on the gearbox, some need oil and filter changes at 40,000 miles. Others need just an oil change at 40,000 miles. Sealed-for-life gearboxes have no oil or filter change intervals.

Really unhelpful hey!

I think as Skidpan suggests, specific make and model forums not associated with the maker might be the best bet, there's always a way to change the oil if you wish.

I'm also tempted to ask what's 'life' expectancy on a sealed for life box, other makers have gone down this route before but have revised their advice following the short lives some boxes had in the real world

Make specialist indies maybe having their customers best interests at heart (others may think differently) paid no attention to the SFL fashion fad and serviced them anyway despite the makers advice of the time.

Thanks Gordon,

Just got off the phone to VW UK who has told me it is a not its sealed for life and does not need a change, but as you said logic and the DSG's dubois longevity. Now i will just have to find a mechanic here who is willing to do the change. Touch wood though i am very please with the car exept for the jerky pull away which maybe down to getting used to a DSG.
