Jaguar X-Type Estate 2.0 SE D - Very sluggish to start - just like battery dying - sharfrs51

With no prior signs of battery losing power the car on first start did not start, just like a dead battery. After a few seconds I tried again and after a very slouggish start the starter motor began turning and eventually the negine fired.

I put the battery on an 8 Amp fast charge but after 4 hours the charger was still showing a 'Battery poor condition' light and only 90% charged. Starting the car was just the same very sluggish.

As the battery was the original I replaced it with an 85 AmpHour unit. This I also fully charged before use. However exactly the same when trying to start.

Any ideas please. PS the car is otherwise in very good condition with no signs of engine issues at all.

How aboyt checking the connections? The earth to the engine and chassis would be my first point of inspection.

Failing that you may find the starter motor is failing.

What about the cabling to the starter? Does it all look OK? Same with alternator wiring.
