Exactly the type of car (age, mileage, fuel type) that HJ says you should avoid like the plague.

If it has full history with evidence of considerable replacement on items such as turbos, suspension parts, electrical items, clutch and dmf, etc then it could be a bargain.

It will all depend on what price you pay.

What do you want, advice, suggestions?

Would i buy one, yes provided it's not the 1.6 Hdi ticking time bomb, and it's had an oil change every 10k miles max and at least one preferably two transmission fluid changes...and that transmission isn't satans automated manual...and most importantly it's cheap enough that i could afford to scrap it if it goes badly wrong.

Last of the old shape?.

You'll need the services of a good Citroen specialist within easy reach for general work unless you're a competent DIYer, if the suspension plays up ( presumably hydraulic) then Pleiades at Sawtry is the place to go.

Make sure everything works before you hand over your dosh, long mot, proof of service history.

Decent set of known make tyres all round and discs look respectable are your first inspection points.

I have a 2007 Citroen C5 Exclusive hatchback diesel automatic. It only has about 38000 miles on the clock. I’ve owned it for 18 months. It’s the 2-litre 16valve HDI engine.

I love it. The 6 speed auto box is as smooth as silk and the car is quiet and smooth. I use it for a 13 mile each way commute to work and for distance work as well.

I would not touch a 1,6 HDI unless I had it from new. The engine suffers badly if servicing is at all suspect. The 2 litre is different. It is recommended by some to change engine oil every 10000 instead of 20000 and use the correct oil, Total Quartz INEO 5W-30 Motor Oil, that is what I do. Apart from the normal checks for wear and tear and general condition, try to find evidence of the following: - Cam belt change, every 10000 miles or 10 years, whichever is first. At least one gearbox oil change. Check/refill of the eolys fluid tank for the fap filter system 2007 year is the face-lift version. Better looking in my opinion than the early model and with much better build quality. The gearbox is by Aisen-Warner and is used by a variety of manufacturers. I live on the edge of the Cotswolds where everywhere I go is either uphill or up a steeper hill and the car averages 40 miles per gallon. A longer trip on more level ground and it will achieve the low 50 s.

I echo the above posters, don't touch the 1.6.

It might be a good engine, but I think if suffers if neglected.

I'm sure this is the same engine that's also in the Focus and another car, and all three manufactuers specify different service intervals!

Same engine and gearbox as mine, then. If you like it and it seems ok then I would not worry too much about the milage. Apart from the 1,6 HDI which I think has some ford input into the design, PSA have made some darned good diesels for decades.
