VW Golf mk5 - VW Golf mk5 new ignition barrel key question - simp
Hi

We have had a new ignition barrel fitted to the car by a local garage but the keys that came with it are not remote keys.

Is there any way to program the old key to the new barrel and locks.

I would have thought that an easier option would be to order a new barrel to vin number ,then your existing key will fit.The existing/new keys can be re-programmed,but can only be done via the diagnostic system

Thanks for the response

We were offered that option but were told that it would take 10 days, we couldn't really have the car off the road for that long.

Do you think the local garage that fitted the barrel would be able to program the old remote key to the new barrel, he's a VW specialist.

If he is a VW specialist ,and if he has the equipt to do the job,why did he not re-programme the keys.?To be honest,VW always quote 10 days on an order like this,but often delivered in under 5 days.

Just to be clear

The old keys are remote keys

The keys with new barrel are not remote keys and work in the new barrel.

Are you saying that he could have programmed the old remote keys to the new barrel. If so do you know how he would do this so we can approach him.

Yes the new key does start the car but we now have a new, none remote key to start the car and the old remote key to unlock the doors.

We were hoping that it would be possible to program the old key to the new barrel so we would have just one key again.

No easy way out of this.My original suggestion of a new barrel ordered to vin number is the simple solution.Or get the new barrel reconfigured to accept the old key metal blade.
