hello

2 days back i started my a3(tdi,2010 reg) and after going 100 yards it stoped without any warning light.i called rac and they tried to start but self was going blank with funny sound.they said timing belt is gone or head gasket as they saw some smoke under bonnet when trying to start.he called another guy with trailer to tow my car to home.he came after 1 hour and when tried it started after long self.(thats mean timing belt is fine).today i started my car after 1 day.it started fine but there was foul smell from exhaust.i think when i tried to press accelrator fully on stationery car,it didnt seems to catch full speed.

please advice

Don't try and start it. If the timing belt or related components are broken you will be do loads of damage.

thanks for your reply.

i have started it in morning and it was starting fine but i didnt tried to drive it.

does a car start if time belt isbroken

In a word no.

But if the belt has jumped a tooth or 2 due to tensioner failure it would probably start but run badly. It might damage valves etc if started like this.

But since you have already started yours I guess its too late to worry. You need to get the car inspected by a garage.

i have just checked the service history ,it was changed at 82000 and now it 127000

Would be due a change now then. Last thing you want is your belt to snap.
