Peugeot 306 diesel - contaminated coolant - basel

I stupidly squirted Washing up liquid into radiator filler instead of into washer filler.

What do I need to do now to avoid damage. The engine has not been started since.

The cooling system needs draining and flushing as many times as necessary to ensure there is no washing up liquid residue remaining.

Only then refill with the correct water/antifreeze mix.

Foam inside the cooling system will do your car no favours.

Add to that washing up liquid in the washer bottle is not a good idea really. Buy some of the correct stuff.

Winter may be almost over, but you may still need antifreeze in your screenwash. Fairy Liquid will not help much there.

Every few years the wash bottle should be completely drained, flushed out and refilled, to get rid of the mess that bugs make of the screenwash. You can tell when it needs doing if the screen dries with a visible milky film.

Washing up liquid - big no no, it contains salt, thats sodium chloride type salt, common salt, table salt-up to 5%-not the stuff you want on your windscreen.

Just man up and buy the proper stuff.

Follow the procedures in the Haynes manual for coolant flushing and renewal. Haynes manuals for the 306 are just a couple of quid on Ebay.
