Vauxhall Astra j 1.6 CDTI - Vauxhall pulling a fast one? - Oil change - GHSAUNDERS40

I'm hoping someone can help me. I bought my Astra pre reg in August and feel the 20k between services is silly. The car is at 11k and 9 months old so its not due a service according to the schedule. I booked the car into the dealer for an oil and filter change as i want a change every 10-12 k as I plan on keeping the car long term.

The dealer told me if i do the oil change before the cars 1st official service I'll invaladate the warranty. This makes no sense to me at all! They say the only way around this is to do the 1 year service early. Are they pulling a fst one or is this standard procedure?

I've contacted Vauxhall HQ and am currrently awaiting a response.

Many thanks,

Wait for the response from Vauxhall UK, then find another dealer.

It's absolute nonsence that an early oil change will invalidate the warranty - the only thing affected is that the next 20k interval starts from the early oil change but that's irrelevant if you're changing every 10k.

Just change the oil, either DIY or using a local workshop, but using a Vauxhall filter as an interim OCI and no-one would ever know. I've done exactly that with Vauxhalls and a Hyundai as I too think that 20,000 miles is too far.

Am I reading this right? You want to change the oil now, but the car will be serviced in 3 months time when its 12 months old and then see another oil change?

I cant see how any engine related warranty claims could be refused, unless you use an oil and/or filter that does not meet VX specs for the engine.

Just wait until the annual service. The service interval is probably every 12 months OR 20,000 miles, whichever comes first.

As another poster said above, just wait 3 months. An annual oil change is fine for longevity.

Is it 1 year / 20,000 miles or the now more common 2 years / 20,000 miles ?

no harm in doing your 1st year service early, just go to a different dealer.

Never heard such rubbish from a service department, they dont know what they are talking about.
