How long do we have to wait before putting to bed - lilalfie

Afternoon, Any advice would be appreciated please and please do not think so bad of us.

My husband got stopped in June 2014 whilst driving a SORN vehicle (he was taking it to the garage), will this has invalidated the insurance? Obviously there was no tax or MOT on it, we received a fine which we paid but is there still a chance of us having to go to court for no insurance.

As I said the offcence took place in June.

Many Thanks.

Failing to SORN a vehicle does not invalidate a current Insurance policy in force at that time for the vehicle.

The offence is USING a m/vehicle ON A ROAD or PUBLIC PLACE without Insurance. These tyhree factors have to be proved for the offgence to be complete.

Rest easy.

I would have thought paying the fine for driving a SORNed car would be the end of it. If the police wanted to take action over the lack of insurance I would expect them to do it straight away.

But maybe someone knows better - DVD?

Agreed FP

If you have a vehicle and you park it up off the road in your Garage and the Insurance (and/or VEL) runs out then at that point you have to SORN it. Failure to do so and offence for which fine can be imposed.

All to do with records for continuous Insurance record on MIB so that if 'pinged' state of Insurance for vehicle becomes apparent.

Thank you Both. So do you think we are not going to get a summons to go to court for no insurance? Kind Regards.

I was so concerned because the van had been driven with it being SORNED that it would invalidate the insurance.

"So do you think we are not going to get a summons to go to court for no insurance?"

- I don't think anyone is offering a cast-iron guarantee! But most probably not.

"I was so concerned because the van had been driven with it being SORNED that it would invalidate the insurance."

Again, DVD may wish to correct me, but I think driving a SORNed vehicle does not per se invalidate the insurance.
