Hi recently bought a peugeot expert 2.0 HDi 2003 model. the van drove 50 miles home faultlessly, and ran perfect that night tootling about. I then got in it to get to work the next morning and it started and ticked over fine, set off and the van just cut out, started up again straight away for 2-3 seconds then cut out again. I then tried again that night, started up fine and went for a drive nothing wrong. Got in it the next morning cut out again, but again started fine that night. It is so irritating does anyone know what this problem could be?

My crystal ball does not work in the cold weather, but may be a good idea to replace the diesel fuel filter as a start.

I had one of these at work a while ago with exactly the same symptoms. The engine would start fine, but would cut out after a few seconds. If left a while it would start again but would cut out after a few seconds.

A quick test. Check to make sure there is smoke coming from the exhaust while you crank the engine. If there is then you know fuel is being injected. The problem could then be a loss of oxygenated air being drawn, as was the case in the one I had. A scantool showed a fault code of mass air flow sensor. The problem was the EGR valve stuck open, causing the engine to draw back its exhaust gas.

Now the bad news. The EGR valve is a right %\+*^ of a job to get at.

The vans just had a crank sensor as was up on diagnostic as faulty, still not fixed this issure, its got to be a problem with the fueling as it just cuts out as if its ran out of fuel then wont start until left 10 15 minutes?

Read again what I posted above. Does smoke puff from the exhaust when you crank the engine?

I had a similar problem on diesel 307, it was the diesel heater sensor at fault.

Not sure what diagnostic gear they're using but get them to read the live engine data.

Has it had a new fuel filter as explained earlier? They're not dear, I'd probably change it as a matter of course.
