Hi, my clutch pedal went floppy overnight with no prior warning or changes to how the clutch felt etc. until I came to use the car the next day, it went from fine to completely slack and wouldn't go into gear.
I had it towed to the garage and asked them to check the hydraulics on the clutch slave. They said they had checked it and it wasn't the problem and they would need to spend 8 hours labour to remove and identify which part of the clutch had failed.
They have had the car for two whole days and have called me to tell me that they have replaced the entire clutch but now realise that the clutch slave hydraulics have actually failed. They have told me that they were correct to replace the entrire clutch kit as when the hydraulics failed this has damaged the clutch plates.
It sounds to me like they didn't check the hydraulics before replacing the clutch kit and upon realising this they are spinning me a line so they don't loose out on the clutch kit and the 8 hours labour spent replacing it.
I had the hydraulics on the slave replaced 4 years ago at a cost of £200 parts and labour. I also had the whole clutch fail and this was replaced 3 years and 30,000 miles ago at a cost of £800 parts and labour.
There is a massive price difference between the two! Can anyone advise me on whether there could be any truth in the clutch plates becoming damaged as a result of a faiiled clutch slave hydraulics?
Many Thanks!
