The red Golf was parked behind houses at the Old Stables and between 6pm on Tuesday 18 November 2014 and 7am the following morning, thieves have stolen the wheels and the braking system, including the brake pipes.
PC Melony Pitchford of North Yorkshire Police's Safer Neighbourhood Service Desk, said: "This is a highly unusual crime and someone would have had to take great care and a considerable amount of time and mechanical knowledge to do this.
"From time to time we receive reports of wing mirrors being knocked or hubcaps stolen, but this is quite a different matter. It renders the vehicle completely un-driveable and will require a good deal of time, effort and expense to get it roadworthy again.
"I urge anyone who saw anyone apparently working on a vehicle in the area at the time, to contact the police."
