Mitsubishi Mirage 2014 - Are they really as bad as the reviews make out - diddy1234

I was just wondering if any owners out there can either add / dispel or confirm the reviews that I have read.

In the next six months I plan to change my current car and I am quite tempted my the Mirage.

However the reviews don't cast this car in a good light.

I really like the idea of a 1.2l petrol engine that doesn't cost anything on road tax (even in automatic form) that is also really light weight.

The downsides are that it drives terrible and is noisy (engine and road noise).

I did pass one in today and can say it looks better than the pictures suggest. A hind of Mazda 2 look about it.

So what do owners think ?

I haven't driven a Mirage, but have had a look around one.

I get the impression the reviews are harsh because of the price tag, Mitsubishi are trying to get a mid city car market price for a vehicle which would be priced nearer to a Dacia sandero or Suzuki Alto.

My impression was of a cheap but perfectly functional car, which had clearly been built to a price but was expensive when compared to rival cars on the market. The list price should be nearer 6 grand, not 9 grand.

I'm sure it's not a car for the enthusiast, but it's one of the few small cars which are available as automatics. They don't sell well, because of the poor reviews, so no doubt good discounts can be had.

I know someone who has one: she's 80 and doesn't go far, but her husband has had a string of Mitsubishis and got her a Mirage to replace a faithful 15-year-old Nissan Almera. If you're not looking for excitement and can get a good deal, it's worth considering.
