I was wondering what your opinions are on makes of filters.

I am going to service my car my self 2004 D4D Avensis.

so far genuine filters made by denso have been used.

I cannot find a supplier of Denso prouducts, Can anyone advise if they know of any.

I have spoken to my local motor factor who can get hold of several brands,

ie Motaquip, MANN, ADL BLUEPRINT and wix,

what are your views on these makes, are these going to be good as the original filters. or is they any others that you use.

Any reason not to use genuine parts from the main dealer?

I don't worry about aftermarket air, cabin filters but there are too many stories of faulty non-genuine oil filters for me to take the chance.

Toyota dealer, you can ring them up to check you are buying the correct part.

Mann are top quality filters if you are not going to use o/e.You will probably need one of these to change the oil filter ,they can be a real pain to do.www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?cat=1088&item=7...8

Fuel filter and oil filter, I'd always say go OEM.

Have you tried calling a Toyota dealership and asking them for prices ?

Put the part numbers in the search box, or email or call them, or visit any Toyota dealer.

I use Mann (actually Mann & Hummel). M&H supply a large proportion of the worlds OEs with filters of all sorts. Also filters for all sorts of industrial and lifting / moving equipment.

M&H oil filters for autos are so good that K&N buy them and rebrand them as K&N "performance" filters.

If there is an option for a carbon filter for the cabin, use that over a non carbon. The carbon helps to scrub all sorts of nasties from the incoming air that non carbon filters can't touch.

I've also used Motaquip successfully for many years as I can get Peugeot employee discount from Motaquip. My current Saab and previous Rover turbo love the Motaquip MQV oil.

Wix are highly regarded in many quarters, but I once found swarf in the thread of one and haven't touched them since.

Thank you guys for all your input.

@ elekie&a/c doctor I do not need that tool, my oil filter is a big cannister, I can use my universal oil filter removal tool. Them paper filters are used in the later ad series engine mine is the old belt driven 1cd-ftv engine.

@ RobJP yes I have rang the dealership, The aftermarket adl/mann are coming in at half the price.

@Manatee I have yes my filter number is 90915-30003-8t

@Cyd{P} Very good information. my research suggests MANN are the suppliers of the oem filters.

I just wish I could get denso aftermarket. They do exist but I cannot find a supplier.

Iv always used blueprint on the Japanese cars I've own and self serviced. I find they are good quality and have never had a problem with them.

I vary whose filters I use depending upon who's/what car it is. If it is new-ish I will buy genuine items, for others that are older I generally buy what is a good deal at the time. For example I bought a filter kit off ebay the other day for a Laguna MK2, Fram filters - Air, Cabin, Oil, NGK Spark Plugs and a sump plug washer - Less than £29 delivered to my door. I have also used Wix filters in the past, never had a problem with any of them really.

I almost never buy filters from maindealers, Just buy a known brand and it should be fine.

When I had my Toyota with that filter number I just bought the kits from a jap parts place on Ebay.

They were about £17 for oil, fuel and air filter as opposed to £22 for the air filter and about £12 each for the oil anf fuel filter from my nearest Blueprint dealer. Never had any problems. Still got some left on the shelf in the garage some years after selling the car.

Wackyracer- Would you like to sell them?

Toyota Avensis - oem vs aftermarket oil air cabin fuel filter - Cyd

I just wish I could get denso aftermarket.

Why?

If you've determined that Mann are the OE and you can buy Mann locally at a reasonable price, surely that's problem solved??

Have a look at eBay seller ID MisterAuto - sells a lot of Mann product at keen prices.

Toyota Avensis - oem vs aftermarket oil air cabin fuel filter - VEC786

because denso is oe for Toyota. Mann is VW. I am going to try Blueprint ADL.

Toyota Avensis - oem vs aftermarket oil air cabin fuel filter - Hamsafar

Out of your list, I would onlu use MANN on a cherished car.
While I have never done this for a toyota, I often get the OE part number and then search ebay ticking: include title and description - and sort by price inc. P&P. Often I find dealers selling filters at trade prices and snap some up.

www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=toyota+genuine+oil...0

They seem dear though, so maybe try the dealer parts desk and ask for taxi discount.

Toyota Avensis - oem vs aftermarket oil air cabin fuel filter - gordonbennet

I usually buy MANN, sometimes Mahle, easily bought online and my local factor stocks them.

Always worth checking with Toyota first, the massive genuine oil filters for Landcuiser came in within pennies of proper aftermarket (Crosland at the time were high quality).

Typical accessory shop makes i wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Toyota Avensis - oem vs aftermarket oil air cabin fuel filter - VEC786

The part number I need is 90915-30003-8T, it is one big filter!

Toyota Avensis - oem vs aftermarket oil air cabin fuel filter - brum

Original Toyota brand or genuine MANN are the only brands worth considering.

All the others mentioned are chinese fleabay quality IMO. Careful if buying from fleabay as forgeries are very common in car parts sold there.

Save a fiver and risk how much?

That's an American review and the Fram filters here in the UK are much better build quality than the American Fram branded ones.

In fact, Here in the UK Fram, Technocar, Coopers etc are all part of the Sogefi group and I have bought a Fram filter which was just a Purflux filter with different Branding (easy to tell as was identical to Purflux and had the Purflux chevron pleated filter paper inside).
