My car BMW was booked in for a check up due to a rattleing noise. After the diagnostic check received a call from the servie advisor to inform the that they had found the issue with my car, the belt tensioner needed replacement and belt needed to be adjusted. All was put down to due to general wear and tear (describing it as worn out). I authorised the job to be carried out and I collected my car later on the day.
The moment I came to the workshop to collect my car and I was about to drive of I notice that the noise was still present and inform the advisor of the matter. He recommended taking the car with my as it was very likely that the belt and the new tensioner were still coming together. I went away for the weekend and mentioned that I would call back if the noise was still there by Monday.
On Monday I called back to inform him that there had been no changes to the noise and we organise for the car to go back to the garage.
They following afternoon they phoned to inform that they found the issue relating to the noise and presented me with a new quote for £1427.62 for the repair required (new cat converter). That was of course on top of the £371.92 I was inform this repair was going to cost me. Due to the high cost I decided not to go ahead with the repair at the time and collected my car the following day from the workshop.
I am not sure how to approach this with the BMW workshop, they have said they have done everything correctly and the belt and tensioner needed doing anyways.
As it stands at the moment from my perspective I brought my vehicle to them with a fault, they presented me my with a cost to repair, I authorised the repair and pay for it. I now find myself that the car has not been repaired and I have been charged nearly £400.
Any advise appreciated. Is it fair to request the car to be fix under the invoice already paid? it is fair request a full refund of the repair carried out? where do I legally stand?
Many thanks
