I drive a 2002 Tino. 1.8petrol. 86,000 miles.
I've had problems with the Check Engine light coming on.
My local indie garage (D&L Autos, Blackbird Hill NW9) checked the car when the problem first occurred in April. Cleared the faults. Didn't reoccur.
It happened again 10 days ago. I was concerned that it might relate to the problem of stretched chain.
They took it out again and found that the crank sensor was flicking sick/healthy. £96 to replace, car is fine.
They said they've worked on a LOT of 1.8 petrol engines with stretched cam chains.. Tends to be on Primeras. They say that the problem occurs when the vehicles have not had regular oil changes. Old oil carbonises problems occur.
I should also say that my car has gone from using 0.5l of oil per 5,000 miles to 1 litre per 3,000. Age I think - emissions are fine (sailed through its MoT in January)
