I have two Ford Fiestas, both 1242cc 16v and year 2000 and have owned both since they were 3-4 years old. I have been very pleased that by giving the aircon a blast at least once a month right through the year, both still had effective air con despite never being re-gassed in over 11 years............until now.

I notice that the aircon compressor clutch is not engaging when I press the button. The fuse is OK, I haven't yet done any further electrical checks. The refrigerant pressure is in the middle of the range on a Halfords DIY re-gassing kit unit, so it doesn't look like it's low pressure that's preventing the compressor cutting in.

Is anyone aware of anything I can fairly easily try to get the compressor to cut in?

I expect the system needs testing and regassing by someone who knows what they're doing and using the correct professional equipment.

I wouldn't rely on a Halfords DIY Re-gassing Kit for doing anything except relieving you of some money when buying it! They are useless and I'm surprised they haven't been banned.

Although the problem could be, I very much doubt whether it's an electrical problem.

Absolutely,this is a classic case of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.take it to an a/c specialist and get it checked properly.

And warn them you've used DIY kit on it before their equipment is ****ed!
