Honda CRV - Speedo KPH - FraisyChoc

I am bringing in from France a CRV 2.2 dti and have been alarmed at the complexity of what should be a simple process as all recent vehicles are covered under the Europe wide Certificate of Conformity. A CRV from France is the same as a CRV from the UK infact they are both manufactured at Swindon!

In particular I object to having to pay a further £100 on top of the extra £55 to the DVLA for a Form of Acceptance despite the vehicle having passed the MOT.

Obviously the headlights have to be changed etc but I would wish to keep my KPH speedo as I travel extensively in Eurrope and the UK is the only country that uses MPH.

I believed that Europe wide the law stated that KPH must be displayed with no mention of MPG. Does anyone now the specific legislation that allows the UK to deviate in this manner?

When I took a different vehicle to France the process was so much simpler, they (France) following European rules. When I challenge the DVLA they just say thisis not Europe this is the UK!!

I am guessing that your Honda has KM/ph displayed prominently and M/Ph less so which is legal but perhaps not convenient? Try these people if you want a change www.lockwoodinternational.co.uk/custom-dials-for-k...l

When I had an Import motorbike I used one of these little dealy's to convert from Kph to mph.

Simple to fit, quick, cheap and totally effective. Sadly now we've gone hi tech I suppose this won't be around much longer and of course there won't be a car equivalent or anything for an electronic speedo. Progress huh?

My Cypriot Honda CRV was imported with a Kph speedo.

To make it UK compliant there are 2 changes

1) A new paper circle is stuck on top of the Kph disk - specialist company did this as it needs careful handling or you can easily break the head unit.

2) There is a switch on the back of the head unit that will change the odometer to miles rather than kilometers.

There was a delay of about 4 weeks to get the job done 18 mths ago

I cannot recall the name of the supplier (Birmingham IIRC) - maybe a google is the best way forward.
