Ford Ecosport - Rear Spare wheel - Rogdrive

Does anyone know if the rear sare wheel on the new Ford Ecosport is detachable? I know this car was developed in South America, but it seems starnge that Ford are happy to offer most of the rest of its range without a spare wheel as standard, yet with this car it is literally bolted onto the rear which makes it look a bit bulbous and unwealdy. I presume the spare wheel could easily be removed, but am unsure what it would leave on the car and what it would look like.

What would be the use/purpose of a spare wheel which could not be detached?

Perhaps the question was angled to whether the spare wheel could be easily nicked.

Pos is a bit garbled but that is another interpretation

I assumed it was for reasons of aesthetics, must admit i haven't anything except a 4x4 or lorry with a spare wheel bolted outside for donkeys years.

Are we supposed to imagine something like a StreetKa with a spare wheel bolted upright onto the rear bumper.

The OP refers to "the rear sare wheel" (sic).

Perhaps there's another in the front?

Looking at online images (non uk) it looks like a Kuga sized vehicle with a ruddy great spare wheel in a metal housing plonked on the back. Even if you can take it off and stow it, it's going to take a lot of space. Not my sort of car at all but each to his own.

4x4's with rear mount wheels are OK, but with a full size sized side hinged door or up and over tailgate you'll need about 6ft of clearance at the back to swing the wheel holder frame out, some of the tailgate windows open as well to allow shopping loading etc, this Ford probably has that facility.

More sensible older Japanese designs with rear mounted spares had unequal sized side hinged van style rear doors with the spare being bolted directly to the larger of the two, allowing access for most normal needs to the rear space without having to open the wider door...worked well but wouldn't please western fashion victims.

They look peculiar without the wheel because the door is shaped to recess the wheel slightly and there's usually three blinking great mounting bolts and a steel frame left in place.

Yes, apologies if question seemed a 'bitgarbled', but yes I know the wheel can easily be removed. It is all that is left on the tailgate after that I wanted to know about like the great lugs holding it on. On an old VW camper you can remove this plate, but it wasn't original. Can you cover up the lugs and can the metal casing behind be completely removed, or is it attached to the tailgate?

I have tried to see in my local afford Dealership, but they don't have any, perhaps there ,a good reason for this? It seems strange that a manuafacturer as big as Ford don't have any other options on ths model.

If anyone has one of, cars I would be grateful for a comment, thanks.

Maybe they think most people will want to leave it where it is.
