hi ive got a turbo deilsel mondeo and the glow plug light is flashing and in the morning on first start it smokes white smoke a lot and coughs and splutters what is wrong ive been told its the coolant temperature sensor

Have you checked/changed glow plugs? (obvious question). May be air in the fuel system. I am currently dealing with a similar problem on a Fiat diesel.

hi thanks for replying the plugs were changed in dec 13 so should be ok ive read on the net it could be the coolant temperature sensor so thata being fitted tommorow just hope it cures theh morning problem and stops the flashing plug light..

hi my mechanic says its the coolant temperature sensor and is replacing it later this after noon ive looked on the net and i found one answer that said it needs changing so i dont know all i know its doing my head in big time

.... How do you stop coughing while smoking? ... The temperature sensor needs Replacing this is copied and pasted from another site.

Check the EGR valve to make sure it isn't stuck/sticking open. If it is then the engine will draw back its own exhaust gasses, and that definitely will make it smoke and cough. If the smoke is light coloured it would indicate unburned fuel, which may be due to a loss of compression on one or more cylinders.

I spoke to my mechanic and he has told me to stop looking on net as i will worry myself to death he still thinks its the cooland temperatue sensor is fitting it in the morn at ten so we shall see.

hello THE PROBLEM IS THE INJECTORS do a self dianostic error code most likely

r0302 that is it. new injectors lots of money £140 plus for one BUT you can get recons cheaper.

ps they all have there own code so don,t buy any injector.

Modern common rail fuel injectors are coded for a simple reason. When they're built all phases of their operation are tested. The results form a code which must then entered into the engine ECM so it then knows how to operate them properly. The engine will still run even if the codes are not entered. It just won't be as precise.

glow plug light flashing doubles up as a engine management , it dosent mean the coolant system is to blame for poor starting in the morning.... a replacement glow plug or plugs would not be a bad thing( cheap to buy ebay) BUT BLUE SMOKE AND BAD STARTING IN MORNING IS THE INJECTORS . A CHEAP LEAK TEST WILL TELL U THIS. GOOD LUCK PAUL

my local garage have looked at injectors and say its not them so its going into the ford dealer to be looked at hope it dont cost a fortune.
