Purchased (S/H 77000 miles) in September, in Worcester. During drive to Scotland, warning lights on dash. Stopped to investigate. Nothing seen. Started car, no warning lights. Since then, warning lights (spurious) several times. Taken to Porsche dealer. Oil press sensor needs replacing but must drop sub-frame. Porsche not sure of other warnings, needs time to investigate. Will be expensive. Do I have a case against the dealer? "We don't take returns" was their response. They supplied a warranty that has a £1000 limit. This won't go far in a Porsche dealership. Would appreciate advice on any options (apart from selling the car). Thanks.

They won't take a car back just because it puts a light up on the dash. You have a warranty to fix the car, unfortunately it has a limit which may be less than the cost of repair but until they have it they cannot know how much it will cost. You will have to let them investigate.

You are finding out the hard way that expensive cars are potentially expensive to fix and are no more reliable than more normal models. if you cannot afford the bills don't buy the car.

With regards to selling the car how do you expect anyone to buy it with a potentially expensive fault. If you plan not to tell any potential buyer I think you should examine your moral code.

skidpan,

Thanks for the advice/comments. Having owned 'expensive' cars from Bentleys on down, I am aware of the perils.

Expensive cars are expensive to repair - even when they've depreciated so much they're cheap to buy.

How old is the car - was it bought from a Porsche dealer.

You've had the car 4 months - is there any evidence the faults existed when you bought it - or have the faults just appeared.

Fault manifested itself on the 300mile journey home. Car runs O.K. Just flashes the erroneous warnings. I called the dealer the next day to inform them of the problem.

I do not have the luxury of 'dropping everything' to chase car dealers. This is why it has taken so long to get round to the query.

Thanks for your comments.

So the light started flashing in September and basically you have done nothing about it since its not convenient.

Lights on the dash do not mean " leave until convenient", they usually mean "you have a problem, take to garage". By leaving it for 4 months you could well have made the problem more serious.

Why should the garage or warranty company pay for your failure to deliver the car to them to sort, It works both ways you know.

Hi,
As others have said I don't think it will be possible to have the cars problems resolved under any form of warranty .Or even under Soga .

By leaving the problem for 4 months the dealer could argue that you made the problem worse ,in addition it's unlikely the warranty would cover the faults you describe .

On a more posative note , warning lights don't always denote a real fault ,it could be that the fault lies within the ecu systems .

If the car was mine I would find a Porsche specialist rather than a main dealer ,they would charge a lot less to read the cars ecu .
If not a Porsche specialist , most good independant garages are likely to have the equipment to read your cars faults and advise on a cost to fix them .

Hopefully if you have the car repaired by an independant garage ,the cost of repair will be reasonable .

Please let the forum know how you resolve the problem .

Many thanks for your positive response. I'm a long way from an independant Porsche specialist. I've put it into the local Porsche dealer. We'll see what manifests itself from the work. Looks like an earth fault.
