VW Polo - Engine cuts out when on full lock and stationary - njs1999

Hi

Have had a few problems with polo (W reg/approx 80k miles) cutting out since I got it about 6 months ago. I've had the alternator replaced, as the car was cutting out when I was going along and I turned the wheel quite hard, e.g. in to a car parking space. The new alternator fixed the problem of the engine cutting out.

I have also had the throttle body cleaned out (about 2 months ago) and that seemed to help things but the problem seems to have reared it's head again.

Today, I was stationary and turned the wheel all the way left - it cut out. I then turned it all the way right - it cut out. I went shopping then returned to my car about an hour later and it was fine.

I have had garage check hoses, temperature sensor and fluids and everything seems ok with those.

The annoying thing is that the problem seems intermittent and not consistent at all, but shouldn't be happening.

Any suggestions please?

A faulty/worn throttle body is the most likely cause of stalling slow speed or stationary. An alternator fault would not cause this problem.hth

Thanks for reply.

Would a faulty throttle body also contribute to the car struggling to sometimes start up?

The annoying thing is that this fault just randomly comes and goes...

Never had a car without power steering? If you had, I might venture to suggest you'd never attempt to turn the wheel without moving.

I hate to think what stresses you're putting on the steering components by turning the steering whilst stationary, let alone the flat spots you're putting on the tyres.
