Ford Mondeo ghia tdci 2007 - does Ford mondeo 2007 need silver calcium battery - Danielleg

Does Ford mondeo need silver calcium, our Mechanic replaced with lead acid battery and after 24 hours it had drained again, would it drain this quickly due to incorrect type? Mechanic tested the alternator which seemed fine, we have bought a silver calcium battery today and installed at half 2 today fired up straight away, just a waiting game now to see if it is more than the battery I think or is it definitely something more? Any ideas I'm at my wits end

All Ford models from around year 2000 need a calcium battery so that the smart charge system works correctly..However from your description of the fault,I don;t think the battery is the problem.hth

Silver calcium batteries are normally very reliable (as they should be at the price) - mine's seven years old and done 178K miles. I'm surprised that your's has failed unless one owner has abused it by running it flat a few times. Yes - it must be replaced with a silver calcium one, although I have seen an advert on-line from a battery manufacturer who claims that his batteries will work as well as a silver calcium.

Your mechanic is about 10 years out of date.

Time for a more up to date model..

(He can't read trade magazines as it is pretty common knowledge)

Ok definitely don't think it's battery that's at fault not even 24 hours and it's flat agai. And that's a Bosch silver calcium battery, got jump Start and it started enough to go down to Mechanic but battery light kept flickering on and off on way down, I know it's not advisable to jump Start but towed it last time didn't want to go through that again read lots on the whole smart charge system wonder if its something to do with that

Sounds like something is permanently draining the battery, even when the ignition is switched off. No lights staying on in the hatch area or glove box, for example?

If the alternator has been checked and is OK then battery drain is about the only possibity. An ammeter needs to be connected in series with the battery to measure what the "Off" current is; it's probably much more than it should be, and the cause of this needs to be investigated and cured.

Thanks for all the advice, car back down with mechanic so he's going to check it all just wanted some ideas, there's nothing obvious staying on like lights etc, the engine mangaement light has also been on don't know what this could be linked to? We had to get dual mass flywheel replaced around 2 months ago and it's been on ever since but these battery problems only started around 2 weeks ago so don't know if this is a seperate problem think he is going to do diagnostics just baffled with it all

To flatten a battery overnight,it must be a hefty discharge-I be thinking of alternator problems-checking the output voltage means little.
