Audi A6 - AA warranty - AA warranty review
Are AA mechanical warranties worth having, I think no it is just a glorified money pit. I have an Audi A6 bought from new and it is an 05. After te warranty ran out I took out one with the AA and paid £467 yearly. This yer was the first time I made a claim, my air con rad went so I got it replaced. I paid the £50 excess and thought I had done well as a new rad was in the region of £350 plus the labour etc.
Today I phoned them to cancel the policy as I was buying a new car and 2 years Nissan warranty was part of the deal.
The AA told me that in the small print I either had to keep on paying until the end of next July or pay for the repair whichever was cheapest. I didn't hold back telling them how disgusted I was with this but there was no way out.
Any way I ended up paying for the repair as it was the cheapest option, but it was only then that I found out they had used inferior factory repro parts in the car and not genuine Audi parts. The total bill was just around £300, that was for the parts and labour , bearing in mind they have to strip all the front down and get the old fan out and replace it. I had been quoted between £700 to £900 to get this done but they did it on the cheap.
Be very careful before going in to a deal with these people.

That's pretty normal for an insurance company. The premium is for a year but you can pay in installments. If you have car insurance and make a claim you also have to pay the whole years premium straightaway and can't cancel, same with washing machines etc... Otherwise, some types would scam it after paying the first month and then cancel it.

You purchased an annual policy, paid by installments. If you cancel before the end of term you are liable for the whole premium, particularly if you have had a claim in that period.

If you had not had a claim you may have had a proprtion refunded/ or at least charged a slightly lesser annual premium to cancel.

Its the same for any type of annual insurance, the premium is for the whole period.

Won't the AA allow you to hold the warranty that you purchased from them over for two years, until the Nissan warranty on your new car expires? Your AA warranty would then recommence for it's remaining period.

I believe they are willing to make this arrangement where breakdown membership is taken out and the member subsequently buys a new car which has breakdown included as part of the new vehicle warranty, but I don't know about warranty insurance.

Might be worth asking them.

So if I read this right, you have had the AA warranty for around five years, paying an annual premium of £400-£500. In that time you have only had one claim, which was around £300 and it cost you a £50 excess too in order to claim. By my reckoning you are well and truly out of pocket...

Do not buy warranties for anything as they are very expensive and a nice little (big) earner for the vendor.

If you want peace of mind regarding faults open a separate bank a/c and pay into that week/monthly and you will be quids in.

Good point. When I retire next year I'm seriously thinking of doing something similar for private health, instead of paying prohibitive premiums that my employer pays at the moment.
