They hold their price well in the UK surprising because they are not very reliable and seem to require a lot of tlc when a few years old.But you pays your money and the choice is yours.

Try driving one over speedhumps and potholes.

dont buy one if you plan on using the rear seats.

They have proven to be unreliable, best avoided out of warranty.

Try the Suzuki swift sport. its a better all rounder and far more reliable.

Do you need an automatic? If not, you can get a new VW Up / Skoda Citigo for your £10,000, or as suggested above a newish Swift Sport.

Having bought an Up BMT for a member of my family I can only say its one of the worst cars I ever driven not a patch on the Swift in my opinion.

The swift is a excellent car for the money I had the last shape for four faultless yeas. Ony needed routine servicing and tyres. It may not be as sophisticated as the mini but it can still bring a bit smile to your face when u want to have a bit of fun.

Buy your Mini with confidence. You get 12 months warranty from the dealer. Fancy recomending Suzuki to someone who set his heart on a Mini Cooper. I have Cooper Clubman on 10 reg. The only problems I had were 4 oil leaks at 15K all fixed under warranty. Now I done 30K and no problems or breakdowns whatsoever. Lovely cars, solid build, great to drive.

Buy a Toyota or Hyundai and you get 5 years warranty, Kia give 7 years, Vauxhall 'lifetime'.

All of which would give more confidence than 12 months.

I'm assuming the 12 month warranty will be from the dealer - the original op was buying a 3 year old car so none of the otehr warnnties would count either. And I belive the Vauxhall one does not transfer to the next owner.

The Hyundai and Kia are both transferable here in Germany I would think they are in the UK as well.

Toyota warranties are transferable as well.

A one year warrnty says more about the manufacturer's confidence in the quality of their products than anything .or rather the lack of it . except for the gullibility of purchaers of new cars with only one year's warranty.

A one year warranty on a 3 year old car seems pretty good to me.
