My daughters car has done 56k plus miles and is having problems selecting gears.

The vauxhall garage tells her a pin and cap need replacing in the gearbox. However they say they cannot get the parts and she needs a new gearbox.!! s this true and is there another way to sort this out please. She has not got £500 plus pounds.

Thanks,

Kind Regards, Charles P.

What is a pin and cap,

I would take to an autobox specialist much cheaper than a main agents they should also tell you what is really wrong.

My wifes 07 plate 1.4 Automatic was purchsed new in 2007 and was "recalled" by customer satisfaction letter in 2008 for a gear selector problem which was completed by the local Vauxhall dealer. In 2010 with only 14k on the clock we could not get the selector out of park and had to have a new selector fitted. In 2008 they fitted a "kit" but should have fitted a new selector so at the dealers expense the work worth £380 was completed FOC.

In Oct 13 with 24k on the clock we experienced the same problem and another new selector was fitted at a cost of £480.

Despite appeals to Vauxhall Complaints on the basis that it is an inherant design fault they have refused to help financially in any way.

I am also looking for other owners experiences.

Thank you Mr. Bucks. This is obviously a known Vauxhall problem. Maybe we should contact Watchdog. They are good at drawing attention to this kind of problem.!!

They sometimes get results.
