I have almost agreed to part exchange my A4 and the price offered is £12500. This seems reasonable when looking at the Parkers Guide and I was quite happy until I searched for similar cars on the internet.

The only similar vehicle I could find on the Audi website was the same spec and age but had 6k more miles (Mine has 30k) They are asking £16400.

Is this a rare sought after model or is this reasonable. I know the dealer has to make a profit but £4000 semms excessive to me.

Any comments welcome. I should mention that the part ex is with a Mercedes Dealership but they have Audi dealers in their group.

The important figure is the price to change however its worked out.

You could spend an hour on the net now and get a comparison figure, get a valuation on yours from WBAC...be absolutely honest about any damage whatsoever, then see whats on offer via the internet car suppliers with your new car of choice, then do the sums.

£4k mark up for a glass palace is quite normal, those places take some dosh to run plus suits standing about that need to be paid for..;)

edit...rare and sought after...only if you're buying, if you're selling it was the one model one engine one colour one gearbox etc that nobody wants.

Thanks Gordon, some useful points made.

I have tried WBAC (for the first time ever) and their provisional offer is £650 higher than the dealer. I will follow this up with a visit and see where I get to.

Excellent, please keep us posted won't you, be especially interested to hear how much you can save overall without a trade in at this level if you decide to go down this route.

Not at your budget level by any means but my son sold his Toledo to WBAC (mainly to avoid the usual suspects who make selling privately such misery, and i feel exactly the same), he was scrupulously honest in disclosure and they honoured their provisional offer without hesitation, i know they get some bad feedback so looking forward to hearing if your experience is as good as my sons.

I will certainly keep you informed. I try and avoid a private sale for as you say, the antics of the usual suspects.

I will also be intested in the Dealer's reaction.

WBAC are shysters. They will not give you a good price. Whenever I've wanted to sell a car I've used EBay motors classified ad. Never had any issues at all. Maybe takes a bit of effort but you will be better off by thousands

Went to WBAC in Chertsey and their offer of £15,600 for my 2 year old, 40k miles car was amended to £14000 based on the general condition of the car not being as I said. They quoted marks on the alloys (marks not scuffs) and some minor chips on the bonnet and frontal area. On the online valuation form you don't get an opportunity to note minor stuff ike this which is part of the clever or not so clever con. I'm sure they work on people being fairly keen and/or desperate to move the car on and if you've travelled to them you are going to accept a lower offer. I didn't. Quite a distasteful experience which I suspected it would be but not to that financial extent

The £12500 they have offered is right in the middle of the CAP book price.

Top money if it is in exceptional condition is £12.7 to £13.7.

So that's all you are gonna get from a trade in, sell it private near the top of the exceptional price range and that will be the most you will get outa the motor.

Until you get there and they reduce their offer down to 10 grand... Then sell it in Carcraft for 14995 Very interested in what happens next.

I tried WBAC 3 years ago 'just to see', we had an unusual situation in needing to sell SWMBO's 6 month old Golf due to a work assignment abroad, IIRC WBAC offered 3K less than the supplying VW dealer (who we sold too) and 2K less than the worst offer from another franchised dealer. They then pestered me for about 6 months with emails enquiring whether I wanted to take their kind offer, surprsingly I didn't and I am unlikely ever to use them.

When recently back in the UK I heard many radio adverts for them, I guess if you need the convenience or the cash quickly then they'll suit you, I suspect that's their target market ?

Their target market is, I suspect, the customers of payday/instant loans - those who need cash urgently but who are unlikely to get it on favourable terms from a bank.

I'm itching to hear just how our OP's face to face visit with WBAC turns out following the opinions of the company concerned in several posts now.

Must admit the parent company is not one i would buy a car from, but then its hardly alone in that for the same applies to many other dealers, main and otherwise.

sorry to let you down but I have been overtaken by events.

The Dealer called to advise that a new car to my spec was available this week and upped his offer slightly.

I decided to accept this and avoid the hassle in view of the limited extra money I might gain by selling privately or using WBAC.

I will certainly miss the performance of my A4 2.0lt TFSi but not the fuel consumption.

Thanks for the comments and interest.

Precisely, at best I suppose they offer convenience (similar to part exchange) and you pay a premium for it in the reduced price they offer?
