Vauxhall Zafira 'Elite' Sept 2011, 13k miles - 'Gurgling' noise from engine. - CHOIRESTER

I Have a persisitent intermittent 'gurgling' noise coming from the engine behind the steering wheel area. It sounds like a glass bottle being filled with water and when full it then 're-fills' so to speak, straight away or some minutes later. Vauxhall advised that it was due to an air lock in the coolant but bleeding didn't stop it. Then they said that it was air bubbles in the Fuel system and a replacement Fuel Filter was required, This was done but the noise continues! I've NOW been told that it's an inherent fault in, not only Zafiras, but also Astras! They also said that a fix had been developed for the Astra but not the Zafira! Does anyone have a similar noise or know anything about it<

On the Corsa C's there's a big wide long hollow tube under the windscreen that fills up with water and sloshes around when you go round corners and brake.

Perhaps the Zafira was part of the same Vauxhall ownership experience enhancement development programme.

Thaks for this idea and I'll double check but don't think that's the problem. A friend has also suggested the possibility that it may be coming from the Alternator which is water cooled! We'll check that too. One problem is that the noise only happens whilst on the move and never when ticking over so listening withg the bonnet up is a waste of time ;(

I just bought Zafira 2012 Design, ECO 1.7, and it has the same "Gurgling" in Vauxhall dealer centre they said that Vauxhall amnufacturer knows about it and this not a fault, but way how engine is built, be more precise - fuel filterin system.

This is the answer I got from them:

"Noise reference is TSB2973 (do not know what does it means). Noise is demonstrating the current state of the art system for the vehicle engine combination"

If you find the way how to fix it please let me know as I am planning to sell this car and do not adise to any one of my friends and other forums to spend 22.5-25k for such a annoing car.

Never will buy Vauxhall in my life. Better to add another 2-3k and get VW.

I have the same problem and only bought mine last week. It is going back to the car dealer tomorrow to see if they can try and fix it. I have researched the internet and got this information from a site in Holland from another Zafira owner with the same problem.

Changing the filter helps only a little if at all, but it seems to be caused
by the high position of the filter in relation with the tank and fuelrail.
If you lower the filter it seems to stop.

Please note I have only copied the above statement from the internet and do not know whether it actually works.

I got the car back and I am told that 'it is a characteristic of the Ecoflex engine. The garage who tried to fix it telephoned two Vauxhall dealers who said the same thing. I have since telehoned Vauxhall head office who know nothing about the characteristic noise on the Ecoflex engine and a Vauxhall dealer wants £99 for someone just to listen to it. So I am going to put up with it and hope it just disappears or get my dad who is a retired Ford mechanic to figure it out as he has fixed problems with Vauxhall before when the Vauxhall dealers couldn't fix it. If he succeeds I wil let you know.

@bumpyball

We are in the same position - bought a 2011 Zafira 1.7 Ecoflex cdti a couple of weeks ago. So far it has been back to the dealer three times and the third time they took it to Vauxhall who said exactly what you were told - it is a 'characteristic of the car/engine' - not a fault.

This is a seriously weak response. It is obviously a fault and they should fix it. I don't like driving the car at all because of the noise which is a shame as we really like everything else about it.

Tomorrow I am going back to the salesman to try to get him to do something about it - if this fault can't be fixed I don't want the car.

Please let me know if your Dad can fix it but to be honest I don't think he'll have much luck.

Cheers

Does anyone have a similar noise...

Only when I eat cabbage....

...Perhaps if you eat cabbage you wont notice it so much?
