KIA Sorento - CD Player running slow - Will Marshall

2011 Sorento, Factory stereo with usb, aux and ipod sockets. (no dvd, bluetooth or gps)

My son plugged his mp3 player into the usb socket to charge it and after that cds play back slightly too slow..

They are all consistently slow and as a consequence the bass is more accented and the sound balance is awry. Radio is fine.

Maybe the two events are unrelated? But what can I do to rectify the cd player speed?

I would not have thought there is much you can do apart from either exchanging it or removing it and having repaired if you can find anyone to do it but surely it is still under warranty.

Yeah, I think you're right.

I checked, it is covered by warranty, but as it is no great shakes I've decided to replace it with a better aftermarket double din.

Know any reliable sources of iso wiring harness connectors and facia inserts? Most places I've seen seem to stock old Kia sorento model kits but are not sure about the 2011 model. Whereas Halfords - true to form - want £45 for a fixing kit.

Halfords have fitting kits £45

If nobody else has what you need then you have to bite the bullet and pay the price!

Reminds me of the old joke about Cortina Driver's door @ scrappie

Scrappie 1 - £50 is what I charge

Scrappie 2 - £100 is my price

Punter £100 you are joking! Scrappie 1 only wants £50

Scrappie 2 - buy it there then!

Punter but he does not have one just now

Scrappie 2 - When I do not have one my price is £50!

If you want to go down the route of an aftermarket radio then all parts are available on UK ebay.

Thanks for suggesting ebay Collos25 . I'll take a look.

So far I've only seen pre-2009 leads on ebay.

Local installers said they wouldn't know until factory unit was removed.

Halfords fixing kit doesn't include wiring harness, Different staff have had different opinions after looking it up on their system. One said they did have a harness, another said they didn't, a third wasn't sure and suggested they look at what was there after I removed the factory unit.

Car Audio Direct responded to an email straight away stating the last option, remove the HU and see what is there. Then they can supply the right one of two harnesses

Fortuitously there is a centre console removal video posted on the USA kia forum, which appears to be far more on the Sorento ball.

So, baby steps it is!

It's getting better, Im glad I opted for an aftermarket double din instead of replacing the factory unit on warranty. The new double din (pioneer x700 £125-!30 at amazon or Halfords). beats the pants off the Sorento factory HU which was always bland at best.

Removing all the centre consol bits and pieces was a doddle thanks to this excellent video - no scratches ot indents. The tricky section came out even easier than in the demo.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z753eNpwabI

After searching all over for a harness I found thatHalfords hadn't told me there was a wiring adapter that came 'free' in the box with new head unit. It fits fine save for having to swap two wires over at the bullet connectors to retain settings when ignition off.

They had got ithe price of their fascia adapter & mounting kit wrong - it was £105 for the right one. Now that is crazy! £45 elsewhere..Car communications were extremely helpful.

Arial adapter similar to this one, but they are sourcing the actual one with female end elsewhere

Great stuff.

Cheers.

The fascia and aerial adapters arrived yesterday. All installed now.

Now I only have to remove the floor part of the consol to find the internet dongle my wife accidentally dropped down the centre consol whilst the head unit was out. :)
