I have a 51 plate Astra 1.8 16v Sxi

The car was parked on my drive approx October 2012 due to ill heath, I attempted to start the car Friday night but the battery was completely flat. I replaced the battery (Saturday) and the car started first turn of the key ( WOW I Thought )

After the first initial start the engine would only occasionally rev / respond to the accelerator and the idle was very lumpy it sounded like it may have only been running on two cylinders shortly after the engine stalled

Upon restart the engine revved almost into the red but then died back to a very lumpy idle and again only occasionally responding to the accelerator

Noting the fuel was quite low and thinking the petrol may have gone off over the winter months I added approx. two gallons of fuel which has made no difference at all

Hoping the head gasket hasn’t gone or something more severe due to the bitter winter months

Anyone help
