Slightly 'off-topic', I know, but......I had....once...an old Volvo 740 with a main [HP] fuel pump that positively howled.
The in-tank pump [lift pump, effectively]....was checked, filter sock replaced, etc...no change.
The noise was there rfom the first day I had the car...I bought a new HP pump, meaning to replace said item at some point......6 years , and well over 100,000 miles later, the new spare was still under the boot floor!
Then, one snowy day in a nearby town...the pump finally failed.[knew something was going wrong..couldn't hear anythng]....
Called the AA....diagnosed the fault for the patrol....happened to mention I might have a 'new spare' in the boot.....thus I took 'advantage' of the AA's then-current policy of 'repair if possible', before thinking of recovery....the Patrol swapped the pump for me..in the snow...took him about an hour.....and the 'rest'....[it's underneath on those cars].....and off I went....another 100,000 miles....
Using the AA membership fee as a labour charge...is that ethical?
