hi there again, thanks for the recommendations on my previous post

apart from nissan note, can anyone recommend small auto mpvs for £3000 or under

(i previously had a suzuki wagon and an old scenic) i like the high position and space for my son's bike, needs 5 seats(family), doesnt have to be big because mainly just for son and i.

previous post summary:

Hi I have managed to save £3000 for a car, i cant afford anymore,
it needs to be automatic,
Under 1.6 preferably
Main use is school run, shopping, afterschool activities
I hardly ever drive on motorways
I do not drive fast
I have one child who is 7, we often have his cousins, so 5 seats- our last car only had 4 seats so was not good for us (Suzuki wagon)
Not fussed on frills, just something that hopefully will be reliable for next few school years

Any advice or recommendations welcome, thanks

its the 1.6 engine size limitation is making us scratch our heads, thats why i didn't include one MPV in the other thread, also some European cars might have a 1.6 engine and an auto box of dubious worth, again can't recommend one of those.

Note is about all i can think of if you insist on 1.6 max.

Hang on, Mitsubishi Space Star will fit the bill nicely.

The Honda Jazz has flip up rear seats making transporting bikes easy. They were available in automatic (CVT form) from almost the beginning of their run.

I believe those earlier model Jazz' had expensive gearbox probs HB, probably referred to in HJ's car reviews guide above.

Not so many small MPVs around for your budget.

Ford C-Max I suppose, but early models were very dull. Plenty of Citroen Picassos around, but I think all 1.6 models were manual and couldn't really recommend due to average reliability.

So Nissan Note, possibly Toyota Corolla Verso might fit the bill best, although the latter were 1.8s.

As someone else said, Mitsubishi Space Star, to which I will add Hyundai Matrix.

It doesn't have a high driing position, but can you get a bike in the back of a Skoda Fabia estate?

I'm not sure why you've started another thread; we could have gone on with the first one.

What's the problem with the recommendations on the other thread - Nissan Note in particular which seems to tick your boxes?

Nissan note is a fine car for the money

It's my first times using this site, so I didn't know if my thread continued or if I had to start a new one.

Nothing is wrong with any of the previous suggestions, I just forgot to ask about mpvs.

Thanks again guys for replies, I am going to do a little research into the recommendations and have a look on auto trader.

We really would like to get something ASAP.

So far I think the note or verso is what I think will suit us best, so I hope to be able to test drive them.

What do you think is best way about finding a good used car?

Auto trader? Any other sites?
Local car showrooms?

Any help appreciated

Most car dealers including local franchised showrooms tend to advertise on Autotrader these days, so is as good a place as any.
