Are they called plips?
Anyway, 50% of the time both of my remote plips are reluctant to unlock or lock the car from any great distance, and worst case I have to walk to the driver's door (around the wing mirror area) to get it to operate.
But sometimes it seems to work from quite a distance.
Why? BOTH plips, remember, and one has a nearly new battery.
(I presume the receiver is by the driver door somewhere.)

I think they could be infra red not radio controlled, same on my Honda Civic, next to useless unless in line of sight to the reciever.

I think they could be infra red
No. It will be a radio signal.

Smokie, does this happen all the time, or only in certain areas? Also do you carry your remote in the same pocket or leave it near to a mobile phone?
|
Weird but true...
To operate the central locking on the Disco from a greater distance I put the fob under my chin touching, then activate.
Wham the doors unlock.
I also understand that touching the vehicle with one hand and operating the CL also works a treat in those areas where yopu have difficulty.

No it doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes I can open the car from inside my front door (only about 12 ft to car) and other times it won't open until I reach the driver door. Seems to be the same wherever I am.
I tend to keep it in the same pocket but not near a mobile phone.

PS I thought I posted this in Tech, Mark?

Not me, Smokie. But I'll move it there if you want.

Another thing to try is to make sure the battery contacts are clean, and also the battery itself. Somewhere in the tech forum IIRC, it was once mentioned to give the contacts a wipe over with Iso-prop alcohol to remove any build up of finger grease and other muck from handling the battery when you've changed it.

"do you carry your remote in the same pocket
or leave it near to a mobile phone?"
Will a mobile phone adversely affect these remotes then? Why would that be? I've just got a car with one of these remotes and wonder if I should start putting it in a different pocket from my phone.

I wouldn't put a phone in my trouser pocket anyway, not if the warnings are true...!
