Hello All, My daughter and her boyfriend were at the wrong end of an accident a few weeks back. The other driver admitted liability having crashed into them on a roundabout,

My daughters B;F was the driver and the car was a write off. The offer for the car was about right in relation to valuation but they both had slight injuries, indded an ambulance called round my daughters house due to concussion, and her insurers sent her a letter today stating that the other drivers insurers wish to settle early and have offerred them both £1,000. My daughter is ok with that but my question to the forum is , would that be a reasonable/average figure as i am not sure as i have been accident free for 10 years. Her insurers only sent the offer in the letter but did not offer any advice , not in the letter anyway though i have advised my daughter to ring after Easter .

£1,000 seems very cheap - SWBO and I got £5,000 each for non-hospitalisation injuries (although reduced for me because of split liability).

Agree with RT. Suggest you contact the insurer and ask them to seriously reconsider their offer otherwise you will have to put the matter into the hands of your solicitor (which they will have to pay for). £1,000 looks like a first offer to try and make you go away.

They are both going for medicals next week, is it normal that they get such an offer PRIOR to the medical?

How long did they experience pain and discomfort?

Are they still suffering or are likely to suffer?

Hello , my daughter had concussion all evening/next morning and has neck pains when she puts her head back. Her boyfriend, the driver , i dont know to be honest as i have not asked her about him. You would imagine it wont be anything long term . I was just a little surprised that they would make an offer of £1,000 prior to any examination.

We certainly didn't get any offer prior to the examination - sounds like they're trying to get them to settle cheap with an early offer.

If any of their insurance policies, car/house/etc have a legal expenses extension, let them handle the claim.

Ins Co is playing the odds.

£2000 now or risk 2 x £5K say 12-18 months down the line and no legal fees which could add another £2k whether they win or lose.

A certain NI Ins Co were known to call round within 24/48 hrs of an accident with folding money to settle immediately!
