SEAT Arona - New Engine fitted - No Warranty - eevie

This is further to my original post re the replacement engine under warranty for an Arona just under 3 years old. Thank you to all you helpful people that replied with advice.

SEAT have replaced the engine and it is ready to collect. (We had informed the dealer at the beginning of this process that we would like a replacement car, rather than a repair) However to move forward with this we are thinking accepting the repair is the most straightforward option. The only issue to be resolved is the warranty on the new engine SEAT says it will only have the "used approved" balance of the 2 year warranty (expires Sept 26). Should the engine need replacing again then this warranty will cover only £1000. SEAT said a the repair would be around £14000.

I am not happy that SEAT do not cover a brand new engine they have fitted. Surely the new engine must have some kind of cover if it developed a fault. SEAT says we may get a goodwill gesture should this happen. I appreciate it is highly unlikely, but it happened once, so could happen again.

Surely a new engine has a warranty?

The new engine would only get a new warranty if you're paying for it.

It's normal that a part replaced under warranty only has the original warranty terms - for example a part replaced 1 day before the original warranty ended will get no warranty at all.

If the new engine failed before Sept 26 and only £1000 cover was offered, you'd need to rely on the Consumer Protection Act 2015 - but may need to prove in court that the "repair" in Mar 25 has failed to cure the original problem.
