Car Accident - Light damage? - Warning

Someone hit my parked car and left a note, but they didn’t include their name or vehicle details. Their note was hoping the damage could be removed by polishing, but when I looked at the car from my upstairs window, the reflection on the body appeared warped, suggesting it may be dented in.

There are marks on the paintwork. I’m unsure if it’s plastic sc***ed onto the body, as the marks are black in colour.

I haven’t contacted my insurer or the person yet. What should my next steps be?

If it’s your CRV it’s worth money so it’s best to act. Assuming the other driver left a number I would ring it to make sure it’s genuine. Tell them you are going to have it looked at.

My experience is that most small body shops will give you a free estimate on the spot if you just drive up and it is (hopefully) very minor. Do this ASAP.

You will then know better how you stand as to the cost and whether the note is genuine. Assuming it can’t polish out you then need to decide if it’s worth getting repair money from the other driver or paying it yourself (if the note isn’t real) or going via your insurers if there is hidden damage.

Others will advise on whether you need to advise your insurers anyway if it’s really minor and not claiming. You’re probably supposed to in case there is a (highly unlikely) claim against you.

I spoke to the owner, so they admitted fault and insured.

Both had bad days!
