Focus Mk 1 - Dash not working, no dial movement - jaruler

Focus 2002 mk1 1.6

After connecting battery back after a few weeks disconnected to save battery power. The car starts but i am getting no movement from speed and rev dials, and the miles dont show and the oil and fuel still show in the mid position . teh dash appears to not be getting power.

i have checked fuses 35, 36, 41, 61 and they seem fine. I get the "lights" around the dash which is fuse 35 or 36 but nothing else.

What else can i do to narrow down the issue?

Printed circuit fault on the back of instrument cluster . Very common issue on this year of focus . Cleaning the circuit board very often gets it back to life .

Well worth a try. Why it works I have no idea (modern electronic knowledge - virtually nil). The other day my Bose lifestyle remote (a plastic brick with several dozen buttons on it) stopped working despite batteries and contacts all apparently OK. I took it apart, blew out the thunderflies and carefully wiped clean the board (it didn't actually look dirty) and - hey presto!.....

ive smacked the dash hard many times and no change. the dash lights are ok and also shows handbrake on etc but just no dial response or speedo.

Banging the dash is not going to fix it . The pod needs to be removed for repair .

looking to get a used instrument cluster but having a mare confirming what part number should be without spending time taking it off to find it. any clue as google has thrown up several different part numbers and the more i try and narrow it down i find a new one. is there an online database that would tell me what the part number would be?

Pull the pod out to find the correct number. It’s a 5 minute job . Fitting a s/h dash will give you a different mileage readout. I’d get the old unit repaired.

An update.

after not using the car for 2 weeks as away on holiday. came back, connected negative wire again to battery. and worked fine with no issues.

Dont know why when i did this multiple previous times it didn't work. but it would mean maybe that there is a different issue?

going to keep battery connected for now and drive it every other day round the block.

If anyone has any ideas what was actually the issue that would be great if you can share

Possibly the warmer weather has caused the pcb in the back of the cluster to dry out a little.
