Grest news for car production in the UK if it all goes through

"Grest news for car production in the UK if it all goes through"

Yes, but it's a shame Honda lost it's reputation for producing well engineered, reliable cars and needed to close a perfectly good factory in Swindon. If it goes through, it just puts us a little bit closer to where we (UK) should have been anyway.

To add to the dross that are just building battery powered boxes on wheels?

So what?

So what?

When I was an ICI employee, a member of the Business Team stated 'we aren't in business to make chemicals, but to make money'. A silly remark, but I knew what he was at. Many large-scale mature industries end up existing to employ people, partly to limit unemployment cost to the rest of us. That was the root of the Scargill-Thatcher battle - we just didn't need to keep digging coal.

So battery-powered boxes on wheels, maybe. But perhaps better that than finding a way to pay for those made in China (for example) ?

I think i'll buy older models, there are some disturbing reads in the Civic owner forums on failed this and failed that.

I mean..a wet belt on a modern Honda?! Failed turbos ffs!

Honda...

I recall my dad saved up to buy a new car some time ago. He went to the local dealers and asked about the cars, went for a test drive.

He liked liked a Honda and asked about pricing, discounts etc. and the dealer rudely told him to come back when he could afford one.

He paid "cash" for a new Toyota a few days later.

He bought several Toyota's since. Probably 8 at a modern average of £25k. Honda's loss.

About 6 years ago I thought I'd give Honda ago (CRV). Different dealer. Had a budget for an SUV on lease / PHP. No PX as giving up a company car. My plan was to get some guide prices before test drives as there was no point test driving something that was outside of my budget (I could have afforded a very very expensive car but didn't want to waste money). The Honda dealer refused to engage unless I test drove the car first, so they didn't get past the first filter.

Both dealers are no longer with us.

Understand the wet belt was fitted to the previous generation Civic with the new model reverting to chain driven belt.

But what on earth possessed a world leading engine designer like Honda sub contract the design to a German company and for them to accept the prospect of a wet belt , maybe in the interests of cost saving ?

I know this isn't a "what's wrong with Honda dealers" thread but I will just mention my recent experience. I was looking for a replacement for my 2020 Mazda CX30 and was very interested in the new (then) Honda Civic Hybrid. Rang my nearest dealer to see if they had a demonstrator available which they said they did, however the bosses wife was currently using it while hers was off the road? I said I would be in their vicinity in a couple of weeks time and would the car be available for a test drive? They said it would so I duly turned up at the dealership only to be told that they had loaned the car out for an extended review period (2 weeks!). Apparently however, this person only lived about mile from me so they would contact him to ask if he could lend me the car for a day. Didn't hear a word, even when I rang the dealers who promised to contact him again. Again I heard nothing so gave up.

From what I saw of the car in the showroom, I was very interested but that interest completely waned after my subsequent dealings with them. Now have another Mazda from a dealer with some actual customer relations skills
