Just paid £1500 to replace all four injectors on my 2013 Vauxhall Astra CDTi. The work has been done and I've paid so too late to change my mind now but I was just wondering if this seems a fair price. The price also included some diagnostics on the DPF and running a regen to check it was all working correctly, as the DPF was having issues due to faulty injectors.

The garage I went to I've used plenty of times before and the mechanics always seem very professional and good at what they do so even though the quote seemed high I didn't want to risk going with someone I don't know. I use the car for work a lot and needed to get it fixed ASAP by someone I trust.

Which engine? They are all different.

Assuming these were new injectors it is plausible I guess. However on a 2013 car did you not consider remanufactured ones?

You can get a set of 4 for £300ish less for the 2.0.

The price does seem a bit high but I'm no expert and have do direct experience to compare with.

But what it does do is highlight why posters are usually advised against diesel, and what is meant when pointed out that there is more to the running costs of a car than mpg.

Probably about the right figure. Common rail diesel injectors can be horrendously expensive, especially if they are piezoelectric. Most of these cannot be repaired/overhauled successfully. One of the major pitfalls of driving a modern diesel vehicle.

No help to yourself, but this does serve as a reminder that buying a cheap older diesel isn’t going to save money over a less complex and more reliable petrol equivalent.

My 2008 193k V70d ...touch wood.. has had no injector problems and has been as reliable as any petrol car I've owned.

Sounds a fair price, a set of 4 new injectors for my Toyota would cost around £1000, if you shopped around, then you have the cost of all new one time use injector pipes plus various gaskets etc, lots of cleaning (seats) plus the new injectors need coding in, getting the job done by a workshop is over £1750, more at the main dealer.

Compare to ye olde days, last set of injectors i had cleaned and checked was on my Renault 21, injectors were no more difficult to remove than a set of spark plugs (before they started bolting individual coil packs on top) and my local Diesel injection shop whom i knew well for their lorry work did the job for as i recall £50 the lot.

Indeed, a great place. run by people who had forgotten more than the competition would ever learn.

My Rolonoff bodied skip wagon of the time was gutless, International engine in it that was usually fitted to crawlers driving through hydraulics, we took on a contract r****** shifting job down in Bucks that involved around 4 trips a day to two of the roughest tips imagineable.

Slurry and mud axle deep, the gearbox hadn't got a low enough first gear and even hitting the rough patches flat out in first the revs dropped below turbo spool and it died.

Local Diesel shop spent a day on it, never made a sc*** of difference, i asked my boss if i could drop into Northanpton Diesels, while i waited they opened the top of the pump in situ and wound the fuel up a tad...result it went like hell with far more torque from several hundred RPM less, no more tip issues and used less fuel overall because it could be run at lower revs all the time.
