6 months non use and car issues. - shaps

A bit of advice on behalf of a friend .

She came back after a 2 week work trip ending up being 6 months , came back a few days ago and yesterday went to use the car.

Needed charged the battery overnight , thought all was good when it started until she tried to pull away in the drive ... lots of juddering , banging noise coming from the front end .. I had a look while she was driving and the front wheels looked like they were vibrating then a loud clunky / clicking sound every second ...it happens going either back or forth and even when stationary when turning the wheel .

She has always looked after car making sure no advisories and getting work when needed.

Any ideas what it could be , it is an a automatic .

Could be brakes seized on ?

Daughter went abroad for six months and left her car on a driveway. On return the brakes threw up all sorts of problems that were only resolved by replacing all the discs and pads.

Probably rusty discs. I would take off the front wheels and bash the rust off with a hammer and old screw driver.

Only round the edges I hope !!

Depends. The best designs are those where the disc can be removed with just pads out without having to remove the caliper which probably requires more strength to dislodge its bolts than I have. Then you can give the disc a proper fettling; honing it with a carborundum wheel and dealing with any rust encroaching from the centre onto the inside working surface, which is difficult to do in situ.
