Thank you both. Yeah I am trying to find something to help with a consistent seat potion as both I and my wife have bad backs and very different seating preferences. At what price point do more up-to-date cars that arn’t a big bill waiting to happen cost?

You have two problems, first of which being that in todays market, £5k is little more than banger money. So your budget wont go anywhere near what it would have 5 years ago. Second problem is that everybody wants SUV's*, so your budget will go even less far than with something which isn't "trendy", like a saloon car (excepting things like the BMW 3 Series).

You do of course get cars with a higher seating position which aren't SUV's (if that is why you want one), specifically MPV's. But as they are generally more utilitarian, I'm not sure how likely is to find one with electric memory seats.

*Apart from large, thirsty, luxurious and (likely) troublesome elderly SUV's like I mentioned before (possible exception could be a Lexus RX?)

But both myself and movilogo mentions Lexus RX (as a less risky proposition), movilogo also mentioned the Toyota RAV4. I'm pretty certain the Lexus would have electric memory seats, but I'm not convinced the RAV4 would. A higher spec RAV4 may have an electric drivers seat but I doubt it would have memory function, same probably also applies to things like a Honda CRV, Subaru Forester, possibly a Suzuki Grand Vitara. My suspicion is that to get memory function too, you'd be limited you to more prestigious and larger SUV's of the type already mentioned, cars that for the most part should be avoided like the plague at a £5k budget.
