Suzuki Swift - Delivery time of new car from port to dealer! - Jeannine Roe
My new Suzuki Swift arrived in the UK (Southampton?) from Japan on 11th June and five weeks later it’s still there with no sign of anything happening. The dealer seems unable to find out when it will be delivered to them and I don’t understand why it should take so long.

Has anyone experienced the same? It’s very frustrating that the journey from Japan is quicker than processing the car in the UK and getting it on a transporter!

Bypass the dealer, get in touch with Suzuki UK direct and demand to know what is happening, and when the car will be delivered.

Suzuki GB messaged me last week to say our new swift has left the factory and on its way to the dealer, we're not due to get it until September.

Have you been given a delivery date? BTW are they actually built in Japan? Thought suzuki had a European factory?

Edit: Just looked, swifts used to be built in Suzukis Hungarian factory but the current model is built in japan.

Yes, it left the factory in Japan on 19th April and arrived in the UK on 11th June. (About 5 weeks on the ship I think.) Nothing has happened since then! ??

As BBD suggested contact Suzuki uk directly, did your dealer give you a firm date when you placed your order? Ours did and to be honest September suits us for various reasons.

Possibly waiting until at least half a truckload of cars destined for the same dealer.

The cost to deliver cars individually by transporter, ie 11 cars 11 drops, would be very high, yes road carriers usually get a standard fee per depending on various things such as distance but at the standard delivery fee the carrier prepared to deliver to 11 dealers in one trip won't be in business for long plus multiple drops all over the country increases the possibility of transport damage.

If you want the car immediately your dealer could probably get it transported on a single or two car carrier but would expect you to stump up the extra transport costs.

Well, it’s a very big dealer in the East of England so I find it strange that it’s taking probably at least six weeks to get on a transporter!

Every new Swift I’ve seen has been built in Hungary.

The new Swifts are built at the Sagara plant in Japan…

Every new Swift I’ve seen has been built in Hungary.

They aren't always right but, according to Wiki, only two generations of Swift were built in Hungary between 2005 and 2017.

New car is built in Japan (as the OP says), and India by Maruti Suzuki. Previous model was built in seven different countries, but not Hungary.

Every identification sticker I’ve seen on one says Hungary, but I’ll stand to be corrected.

That is curious. Just found this Suzuki UK press document for the new Swift, it says they are made in Japan (for UK, Ireland and Europe)

Maybe previous versions were produced in Hungary, but the new 2024 models are definitely made in Japan!
