Having read on here about serval problems with insurance - Axa declining business and the Lexus NX300h having some sort of easy to steal fault - I was concerned as renewal time is at the end of this month. I had been with LV who suddenly became too expensive a couple of years ago and switched to Axa. Now they decide not to renew my policy.
Quite by change an email arrived from LV prompting me to get a quote, around £770 - ouch! Last year I paid £435. Onto the comparison sites and Alliance came in at £575 and LV £602, for exactly the same risk (NX300h with self, wife and daughter covered).
Moneysavingexpert suggested trying a multicar policy and I clicked through to LV. I planned to include both the NX and my wife's Yaris. Total cost last year was £435+£302= £737, so that was the target to beat. On a like for like basis LV came in at £783, but I had forgotten about a windscreen claim in 2022 so went back and added that in, this took the price up to £806. This being composed of the NX at £526 and the Yaris at £280. However as I had recently renewed the Yaris with 11 months to go I actually paid £564 This is the price for 12 months on the NX and one month on the Yaris.
I also checked a multicar policy with Aviva and that came out at £1239!! On the face of it then a pretty good deal and one I was happy to take as LV are highly rated. I suspect there is a sting somewhere, possibly prices going up at renewal and complexity in untangling the deal. The other thing I noticed was that they valued the NX at a low price, nearly £4k less than Alliance, I boosted this up, but they also have quit high excesses, around £550.
If like me you have found insurance to be challenging and have two cars then a multicar policy might work for you. However I am aware that there could be a few traps further down the line, I will deal with those as and when. For the time being though we seem to be back on the road at a not unreasonable price.
