Can anyone recommend a reliable source for a replacement HP laptop battery?

Plenty available on eBay and Amazon but I'm concerned about the quality. Several years ago I purchased a battery on eBay for a t***iba laptop and it only lasted a year. Apart from the longevity aspect there's also the worry of it going pop whilst charging. Unsurprisingly, the original battery was made in China but at least that would have passed HP quality control. The cheapo replacements will not have done. Original HP replacements no longer appear to be available.

Have you tried the HP parts store?

Have you removed the battery pack yet. I usually struggle a bit re battery replacement/repair but generally I find the odd part number or two. In the past I've succeeded with rebuilding battery packs with replacement cells but it can be difficult avoiding breaking the case and you need to be precise with soldering as space tolerances are tight. This seems less straightforward these days.

Saying that I've recently replaced batteries on a Tomtom 5200 satnav(Amazon Cellonic) and a Netgear Dash cam(ebay) and full battery health has been restored. I usually strip the device down first to find part numbers as many sellers seem reluctant to reveal.

I have, but without success. I've also tried the resellers sites as well.

The battery pack comes off easily but is well stuck together. I've replaced batteries in shavers and electric screwdrivers but I don't think I'd attempt the laptop battery. At present I can use the laptop whilst connected to the mains. If I disassemble the battery pack, I will quite possibly end up wrecking it and the mains option will no longer be there.

I suspect all of these batteries are made in China, even OEM. I've recently replaced a 'phone battery and it was fairly obvious from some of those on ebay they weren't top notch, mainly lower capacity. By carefully looking at reviews I think I've chosen a reasonable one (certainly not the cheapest). The seller had a UK shop, so somewhere to complain to if it goes wrong. All good so far.

Thanks. Is that a Google or a recommendation based on experience?

Trustpilot reviews suggest it's a Chinese operation and that they are not UK based.

I've just bought a new battery from Amazon for an HP laptop which the battery health warning came up, took bottom off and battery had expanded, Hp price was £70 Amazon £29.99

Part no is printed on battery with 4 screws and double sided tape holding it to chassis. Not hard to replace and Hp software sees battery as genuine

Try checking the HP parts store or a reputable site like Amazon, and be sure to read reviews carefully to avoid dodgy batterie.

Turned to eBay. Whilst the seller doesn't have 100% feedback (99.7% on 38k), it does have 100% on 75 sales of this battery. Time will tell.

Some Amazon ratings are a bit stupid in that some moan over something silly that has nothing to do with the working of the item, so I`m careful about whats said rather than take bad ratings as true working ability of item. mine is made in China but well put together and screw holes line up as they should, connection of battery spot on so no problem so far!
