fiat punto mk2 1.2 2003 - starter motor wiring - paullh

hi, thanks for letting me join the forum.

i have just done the clutch and replace the starter motor on my car and I cannot figure out the wiring for the starter motor..

the 2 red wires 1&2 are from the positive battery and the alternator... I am sure they go on the main top post on the starter.

the white cable 4 and the short cable 3... I am, stumped.

there is a earthing point on the engine block just under the starter that the white cable will reach, but that is not correct.

does anyone please have a good photo of the starter motor in situ wired up... please.

I normally make notes of everything but I didnt for this.

any help would be great.

Not too sure on this . The larger red cables would go on the main starter terminal. One of the cables should have a small ring terminal that would connect to the starter solenoid. Earth ground leads are usually black on these , can’t be certain about the white wire .

A Haynes manual should be available for a 20-year-old car with photos in it to answer these questions. Should be able to find a cheap copy on E-bay.
