I'm wanting to have a stab at doing by own basic maintenance oil/fluids etc. I would much prefer to hire workshop space with a lift rather than invest in ramps or stands.

There used to be a place in Oldham called BHA rent a ramp that offered this for about £20 p/h, I believe there was another similar place in Oswestry and Google does report others but they all seem to have closed down or stopped offering this.

I'm struggling to get owt good from Google, does anyone know of anything similar that's still operating? I'm based in Wirral BTW.

Cheers

Don’t think these places exist anymore. Health and safety, liability have probably put these workshops out of business.

Plus the increasing difficulty of managing any worthwhile DiY on a modern car ?

Think you are right doc our local one in MK seems to be a garage .

But I remember my work colleague falling from a car lift when working on his classic car.

He fell to the concrete floor , but unfortunately he had a large spanner in his overall s and this broke his thigh bone .

As pointed out above, Health and Safety nanny state regulations mean you need to have had a training course before you climb a ladder, operate any machine etc.

Even if a facility was prepared to ignore HSE, the possibility of being sued for vast sums for injury means none are likely to take the risk.

You can buy car ramps from the usual on line retailer, for sums between about £60 and £200.

Agreed on ramps but many cars have very low front bumpers these days so not all ramps are suitable. And it is bumpers not just sporty low spoilers. If anyone’s buying ramps make sure the ramp angle is sufficiently low.

It also takes a bit of confidence to get up the ramp and you need a lookout to keep you on track. I used to do it quite regularly years ago with bangers, not so sure I would now with thousands of pounds worth of car.

The adjustable ramps are great but quite a lot more money. No risk of going over the top though.
