My fleet premium doubled after a false claim - Claire R

A year ago when my small company fleet policy was being renewed, I was told there was an open claim which doubled my policy from £2000 to £4000. I was not made aware of the claim before the point of renewal, even though the broker knew about it months before.

There was an incident where someone drove into one of the vans trailer. No fault of my driver as the vehicle who hit him was the one changing lanes and drove into the trailer but he got very aggressive at the scene. My driver rang the police due to the threats but there was not much damage to the trailer so left it at that.

Renewal was October last year so there was no time to get the claim closed in time for the renewal but the broker agreed to try and get the policy premium reduced once the claim was closed as everyone seemed to agree we were not at fault. We were advised much later that we would not have any refund to premiums so complained that the broker did not act on the information they had in a reasonable time to allow us to do anything about it before renewal. We were told that although it was not their usual standard, the delay in notifying us did not have any impact on premiums and complaint was rejected. We decided to forget about it.

Now renewal is up again and we have been told today that there has been ANOTHER claim against us from the same incident! Only this time its from the passenger (as the drivers claim was rejected). There was not enough damage on the vehicle to cause any injury so this is a completely false claim but now as it is classed as open our renewal premium is once again through the roof "while it is being investigated"

Surely there is something we can do? It seems preposterous that one incident can cause us this much financial loss when it is clearly fraudulent activity! Please help!!
