Forgot to note this before removal, doesn't seem to be mentioned in my manuals, and may not matter.

I'm referring to the butted ends of the wiggly spring thing. Should they point up (letter W stylee) or down (letter M stylee)

Googling ""oil control expansion ring orientation" gets general guides which don't seem to specify this explicitly, but from the pictures I get, in order

The variation could be because it doesn't matter, or variation between manufacturers.

Looks like "down" is the way to bet though
