2007 Fiat Panda - Battery dash indicator flashing on and off - Tony Carey

Hi when i switch on the ignitio the battery dash indicator flashes on and off. when istart the engine it goes off and stays off while the engine is running.

I am not sure if this is normal as when you get in to start the car you don't normally sit and look at the dash lights you start up and drive off. I weas having a problem with the battery so ifitted anew one and had the alternator checked.

any advise is welcome thanks Tony

If the battery is good , and the alternator is charging ok , don’t think I’d worry about it , if the light is out when the engine is running.

Some sort of self-check, or immobiliser? Have you RTFM'd?

My son's 2005 Panda doesn't do it but you may have a newer model.

Was this happening before you changed the battery? Flashing on some later Fiats denotes that the car is in "economy mode" - not meaning super economical but it's detected a power problem and has restricted "unnecessary functions".

Has something been disturbed re battery wiring? I've known Fiat high current lead crimps to fail going high resistance(especially after being disturbed) - check them all. In my experience all failures have been on Puntos - but check anyway.

Is the alternator properly charging?

On Mrs BJ's Panda(2006) when the battery is about 8 years old it starts doing strange things but the car always starts and runs. One thing that pops up is a" power steering fault" message although it keeps working. Change the battery and all is well - er for another 8 years.

PS The battery indicator on our Panda does not flash when turning the ignition on.
