Thinking of something like this:

One of our dogs occasionally gets very excited in the early hours and I assume he knows there's a cat/fox/hedgehog/mouse/rat..... or something else outside. We only have a small garden, but in the morning he'll spend 20 or 30 minutes out there sniffing every square inch.

Out of curiosity I'd like to know the reason and hence the interest in a camera. So many to choose from with prices from £30 up.

Anyone got one?

We have something similar, It's just the hedgehogs that get ours going, she stands over them and barks, so now keep her in at night. Leave Mz tiggywinkles in peace.

There's a hedghog that likes going for a stroll and a rumage around for food around 1am when the weather's hot in summer outside my GF flat - I often see them as I attempt to cool my flat down by opening all the windows and French door late at night.

They appear to notice me but I leave it be and they go about their business. Just glad that the local cats appear to give it a wide bearth.

If ours discovers a hog in the evening it's a nightmare getting him to settle for bed. He almost blows a gasket if he comes face to face with one. We've unfortunately had to stop leaving food out for them which is a shame because they need all the help they can get.
